From one country to another

In 1927, the German company Schuco commemorated Lindbergh’s feat with a small plane from its catalogue bearing new inscriptions: Spirit of St. Louis, N-X-211, Lindbergh, and voilà! The felt pilot doll has been preserved; powered by a friction mechanism, the toy rolls along the floor.

In Japan that same year, Wakimura offered an almost identical toy, the same size but with a lithographed tin pilot; the plane was marked Best Fly and Lind-Bark.

We know that German manufacturers had to pay tax on their tools and that, to recoup their costs, they sold some of their sheet metal moulds once most of the production had been completed.
